Where social justice meets smart design and young changemakers turn bold ideas into real-world impact
YDIT teamed up with the Humanitarian Engineering Research Group from the University of Twente and community members within Mutare District for a power-packed workshop experience that brought big ideas and real-world impact together. The team explored how local communities and local non-governmental organisations (LNGOs) step up to tackle everyday challenges and how those efforts evolve when you zoom in through a social justice lens. There were deep conversations, hands-on design challenges, and mind-opening sessions where participants broke down community issues and rebuilt solutions that actually make sense for the people they’re meant to serve. To top it off, we dove into how design and engineering aren’t just technical buzzwords—they’re game-changers in driving sustainable development and meaningful change. It was all about fresh perspectives, bold ideas, and turning passion into practical impact.
Person's With Disabilities engaged Duty Bearers, the MP of Mutare Central Brian James and the Councillor of Mutare Rural District Herbert Gonyora to present their position paper, which advocates for a separate Assisted Medical Treatment Order(AMTO). Their involvement aims to present the position paper to the Parliament of Zimbabwe.
